about a week ago i was doing the hair of a family friend. my dad, my client and my stepmother got to talking about tattoos and piercings - mine in particular (i have a chest piece, two half sleeves, 7/8 stretched ears and a septum piercing). putting her holier-than-thou view out, my stepmother insisted that tattoos had ‘a time and a place’, explaining that you shouldn’t just have them out all the time because it’s inappropriate. citing weddings, church, different things as examples. i was working on someone so i kept my opinion to myself except to say that i disagreed and i would be proud to display mine anytime, including at my wedding if i ever got married. i completely forgot about the conversation until i saw this. and it reminded me and i feel, proves my point that tattoos are in fact not a ‘time and a place’ thing. they’re a part of you and who you are and in essence that’s telling me that i don’t belong in those places or those situations because of my body art. you don’t have to like them but no, sorry, you aren’t going to tell me that because i love my modifications and i don’t think anyone has a right to tell me that i can’t show them whenever i want to. this bride is beautiful and all women and men, - regardless of what type of modification, are as well.
